I know they have good genetics with IMI designing them. They also base off of the CZ which is fool proof. But lately I have been looking into getting a 9mm pistol for just target fun and home defense. Normally I would just go with the staples, but The new 3rd gen baby eagles look nice and have a lot of features. Not sure if anyone has tried them out, but it may be my new defense gun for in home or on the road. I used to have an eaa and i liked that, So i have an idea of the manual of arms for it. But just wondering if anyone had any personal experience with these guns

I have... I got to shoot one a relative had. It was a Gen III and they had two sets of barrel/slide/spring. You can change that in a few second and shoot the other calibers. I am going to buy one of these and all three caliber kits, so to speak. I currently don't have any firearms that shoot "normal" rounds including 9mm, .40S&W, and .45ACP, and this will shoot them all with a quick change. I will be getting one of these for sure. The slide goes down inside the frame, so there is a lot of surface for long life and smooth operation. Did I mention I will be getting one? I shot a full size steel frame which has a 4.XX inch barrel. I have never held a polymer version of the Baby Desert Eagle, so I can't comment on them. For historic value I would like to have a Jerico 941... they go by on GunBroker occasionally. There is one on there now. I like the idea of shooting .41AE and the quick change to 9mm also. I think they all came with both barrels back then. At least I don't remember seeing them without both barrels for sale when I first saw them at gun shows. MrBlackCat

Well your post got me to thinking and that generally costs money! I went to their web site and then the question became what caliber, since I have a couple of glock 9mms I went with the 45 ACP. Ordered it about 3 hours ago and 2 to 4 weeks till it comes in. will let you know after I fire it. Steel frame full size they didn't have anything I could find on barrel swapping on the DE web site but theirs has always been some what of a PIA to veiw.

I can't find anything on barrel swapping for the Baby Desert Eagles... after I shot his, I went to the Magnum Research site and looked for kits or groups to do this, and I could not find anything like that. I would think you have to stay within the same series of gun, but that is mostly a guess. I have seen listings on GunBroker (but not today) that say "conversion set" or something like that. These I have seen are over $200. This supports the idea that is all you need... slide/barrel/rod/springs. I don't think he had anything amazing or custom done to this gun. I also see barrel/slide/spring sets on eBay every week, used for under $200, but I never looked to see what series these are, but I would guess it matters. It does seem odd that there is no mention of this on the Magnum Research website, but their site is poorly designed, in my opinioin.

That would be something for down range after I get the gun. You could say that their site SUCs!

When I am looking for full size Desert Eagle parts, I always see these... but I just looked at four different auctions and none of them stated which series these fit. www.gunbroker.com/item/690808793Not sure what to make of that. MrBlackCat

Part of the problem my be that a lot of people don't know that they have a baby DE gun series. So they don't add the series to the listings.

I emailed tech support for the DE site, just got an answer back now from tech support. They are not offering barrel conversions or plan to for the baby DE pistol . So any that are offered for sale are for the big daddy DE's

Seems odd... maybe a manufacturing tolerance concern on their part? I have seen several sellers on eBay state "everything you need to switch your Baby Desert Eagle to 9mm.". (or whatever caliber is for sale) These are sales for barrel spring and slide. I will try to find out more about this... all the ones on eBay are used, so maybe this is just a case of Magnum Research isn't selling them separately.

It was short and only a half a line long. Short answer is no they might be after market stuff or the sellers don't have a clue!

I saw several of those at the last gun show... that is a seriously compact piece of firepower. Maybe they will be popular enough to the point where around half the law enforcement will understand how they are not "illegal" to avoid the pains of de-confiscation.
Where we live it is kind of opinion and buddy system over laws.

Well mine came in today, went up and penned the paperwork, wiped it down and loaded up the two mags with factory ammo other than it is a stock non adjustable sight other than right or left with brass drift and hammer according to manual. after a couple of test rounds the only problem was with some of the ammo didn't fire first time thru the gun feels good has a nice weight,. It shot well at about 15 feet and 30 feet. I'm pleased with it. photo's tomorrow.

It just looks military... or maybe utilitarian might be more accurate. Thank you for sharing pictures. I will hopefully get one next year. Let me know if you run into any issues with it, if you don't mind. Any speculation on the failures to fire, first time through? MrBlackCat
