Just wondering if anyone has a good idea of when to change recoil springs out in a desert eagle 44. mark VII. I probably have 400 rounds through it and just looking for a basis to go of from. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

The real answer is "when they get weak" but without a second set to compare, I don't know how you would know other than when failures to feed happen even after you clean the slide ways.
It have only changed mine a few times over 4000+ rounds, and found that I can actually go back to some of my older sets and use them after cleaning and lubricating (very lightly) the slide ways... but it doesn't last long and is noticeably weaker to operate the slide.
I shot around 1000 rounds of .50ae with original factory set because I didn't know how to tell they needed changing really... but for probably the last 400 of those rounds, I had to clean the slide rails at least every 50 to 100 rounds or the slide would fail to close fully and you would have to give it a slight push with your thumb... not safe or fun.
With a clean gun/slide, if you drop your slide and it looks like it drags a bit when it picks up a round out of the magazine, then you probably need a set.
(beautiful tractor btw)

Some good advice there. I probably will just get a set to have on hand to compare with and switch when i start to see some issues you described. They arent cheap but, cheaper than a new gun if neglected I suppose.

Desert Eagles are pretty tough I think... even if your springs were super weak it isn't likely it would hurt anything. Worst case it MIGHT break your spring frame. (the little bar that holds the rods over which the springs slide. I have taken the inner springs out of mine for testing without really any substantial bottoming out of the slide. What I think is that by the time the springs are weak enough to allow any damage to the spring-frame or other components, it would be unable to push a round into the chamber, so effectively be a one shot anyway. My suggestion would be to get a whole basic spring kit for it and change them as needed. It is a lot cheaper to buy the set with all the springs than buy them individually. Like this one... www.magnumresearch.com//gun-maintenance/magnum-research-9-44-spring-tune-up-kit-dep211bl.aspJust a suggestion... Good luck. MrBlackCat
