How's about we discuss magazines? I recall something from the other forum about swapping the guts between OEM mags and the ProMag magazines for better reliability. Is there anything to this? Anyone done it? I think I have three of each and possibly one other OEM magazines. From another thread, I've looked mine over and all. Seems like the ProMags do have more spring pressure, and obviously....just by looking at them, have a somewhat larger catch for the slide lock. I don't usually have any issues with any of my magazines, but I have a time or two and chalked it up to being my fault for miss feeds. Once in a great while the bolt will run right over the top round in a factory mag instead of running it to the chamber......and yes the mag was fully seated. My biggest mistake was just putting the magazine in question to the side (instead of marking it) and using the rest. I may just swap a couple and see how things go. I have the 44mag and I've nearly always used the heavier loads 240gr-300gr. I will say that the PMC 180gr cycles my DE just fine though. Any input on this guys?

To be honest, I've never had a mag problem with my DE. About a year ago, I was having many Fail to feed. Thought I had a Mag issue. Took them apart (note I have never done any mag maintenance in 25+ years), and they were filthy ! Cleaned them all, went back to the range but it didn't fix my problem (it needed new Main springs after all of these years). I have 5 factory units and as I said, NTF.

I have my original magazine that came with my 1993 Mk VII .50AE, two extras I bought a bit later. They have always worked flawlessly. Then I recently bought a 44 Magnum barrel which came with two magazines and they have the flat followers and work flawlessly so far in my gun, but that is only through about 200 rounds. Then, slightly more recently, I bought two new .50AE Magazines for a bit over $200 each, and they came with a free barrel... which doesn't work. Good thing it was free. (Ok, this is what I keep telling myself) But seriously, the magazines work fine with my gun and they have the flat followers unlike my earlier three, which have the concave type. I have replaced the springs in the original three twice or three times. Can't remember for sure. Probably three times though. I DO take them apart and clean them every few hundred rounds, just because I choose to, but I haven't had any issues with them. All Magnum Research for me. MrBlackCat

I was reading about your new 50AE barrel issues on the other forum. I posted over there. Maybe we could hash things out over here. I kinda like research every now and then. Got to ask. Where are you guys buying replacement mag springs? I see MRI is offering Wolff springs.
