Well, I figured might as well start this forum off. Tired of coming here and seeing that zero in the Competition Shooting.
Anyone here a USPSA member?
I spent four years shooting IPSC and Steel Challenge matches with the Old Fort Gun Club in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Fun times. We moved early last year and even though we now shoot in the back yard, trying to make it to one of the local matches in this neck of the woods. The matches here are small time compared to the club matches, and scheduling seems to be a bit iffy sometimes. Last year was pretty busy but the wife and I are looking forward to making a match early this year. I have been a USPSA certified range officer (CRO) since 2008 and test annually to maintain those credentials. It is a fun and interesting sport. I truly think it's a good training aid for thought process, tactical reloads, drawing from the holster, safety, sight acquisition, muscle memory, etc. I do know there are a lot of gamers in USPSA that only go for times. For me it's an individual sport and I've met some really wonderful folks at steel matches and the pistol comps. I got to do one Glock match (actually sponsored by Glock) which is pretty amazing since they do this all over the country each year. Being sort of a Glock fan for many years, I couldn't believe I would ever get to do one of their matches without driving a long distance to another state.
Anyway, if you haven't tried a USPSA match....you should. I know there seems to be an avid following for IDPA, but I personally think that USPSA is more practical. As far as I know, most USPSA matches are free for first timers. You can go watch if you don't wish to participate. The Steel Challenge matches are also wonderful for youth. Take that 22LR pistol or rifle and have some fun while learning how the matches are run.
