Hello, new to this forum and also new to Desert Eagles..... recently after wanting one forever picked up a mint MKI in 44 mag!!!! Now I’m reading and VERY interested in the 429 Desert Eagle. Is this still a viable platform?? I don’t see brass available...... Lee dies seem to be it...... is this one going the way of the Cor-Bon or?

There is only one company making 429DE for now... I spoke with Magnum Research today at length about this and other Magnum Research products. It seems that enough people want a 10" Desert Eagle barrel in 429 as a hunting round that it is a done deal. A short run of 10" Mk XIX barrels in all calibers has been ordered... they are being produced. You can call Magnum Research and get on the waiting list for a 10" barrel if you wish, which there is not exact date for yet. Early as the end of May, to July. As with all current production barrels, this barrel will only be compatible with Mark XIX Desert Eagles and not Mk I and Mk VII. I don't see this going the way of the 440 CorBon because the circumstances are different... but I could be wrong. I am told sales of the 429DE barrels and firearms is still very good and has increased a bit over time. If you are looking to reload 429DE, you can search around you will see other forums with information on forming brass for 429DE from 50AE... it isn't difficult from what I have read and seen. I haven't had any issue getting Glacier Ridge factory ammo for it though. There isn't any "cheap target ammo" for this unusual caliber though. I don't exactly plink with 429DE though... as a hunting round, I think the 10" barrel is going to make it a bit more viable, if not excellent. I was also told today that SAAMI specs are coming. It has been submitted. Welcome to the club... MrBlackCat

Thank you Sir!!!! I called Starline today and they only made a run for commercial use. If it can be formed I’d be interested. I don’t like commercial ammo..... tailor a hand load and your brass will be setting in a pile.... and more accurate to boot. Hopefully this will all come together. Thanks again, Hooch

Hello.... thanks for the info. The bottom link you shared of yours is what I first found that got me hooked on this idea. Would be interested to know what and how much they are loading with? I keep thinking a case full of H110......

I guess for me to jump in I’m gonna have to see Magnum Research/Kahr jump in with both feet as well..... I’ll need to see brass, multiple die manufacturers, prospective loads etc..... this is kind of the cart before the horse ..... a great concept just needs a little polishing.

This caliber being isolated to one platform at this time, I honestly don't see it happening. As I said before, it has been SAAMI submitted, so loading data should follow that.
Without moon clips, you won't see this in revolvers most likely, as with most any case that doesn't use a rim... so that market while possible is pretty unlikely. There is a slight possibility of use in long guns, but that too is a long way off at best.
I realize that some people own calibers, and some people own guns basically. I consider Desert Eagles to be "caliber free" for the most part. This lends itself to the ownership of as many calibers as you wish to shoot with it... and in my case, it is basically all of them. If I reloaded, I would own 440 stuff, just because. Is it practical? Absolutely! No matter that caliber, I smile every time I shoot the Desert Eagle pistol... so for me, I can't have too many calibers for it.
I never try to sway people into a Desert Eagle collection as that is not for everyone... with that said, I never discourage someone from trying additional calibers as the components are easily sold. Desert Eagle guns and barrels retain a great deal of their value as can be seen by a visit to the sold section of GunBroker.
Happy Shootin!

Yes Sir what you say makes a lot of sense. I’m gonna try to wait it out and see what happens and then again I may just have to say take my money LOL..... worse thing that could happen is I might just have to buy a 50 upper for it. I know I absolutely love my MKI in 44 magnum....... they are fine handcannons!!!
