I would like a reloaders perspective on this 50AE ammo I have never seen before. I have ordered some of each, but looking at the ballistics on this, I am not sure what to think. This calculates beyond any factory loadings I have ever seen or shot. I don't reload 50AE (or any caliber at this time) so as persons who do/have, do you think this is a bit (or maybe WAY) over spec if it performs as listed? Please let me know what you think about these three loadings. www.ariaballisticengineering.com/hard-baller/50-Action-Express-AE-Semi-Auto-Platform-p128498530MrBlackCat

My First thought is why don't they list their location? Second thought is that it appears to be vanity ammo (way over priced) for what it is The XTP bullets are just Hornady brand bullets . SAAMI specifies a maximum chamber pressure of 36,000 psi (248 MPa) for the .50 AE. Available factory loads can produce nearly 1,800 ft·lbf (2440 J) of muzzle energy.[5] New, unprimed brass is available from Starline. Bullets are available from a few different manufacturers. Most manuals list only one bullet with minimum/maximum loads and that is 300/325 those loads can take down any big game in NA. The list 6 to 10 different powders. In today's market the black label boxes and Safari labeled ammo appeal more to the mind/vanity that an actual need for a spacial ammo that regular ammo does. Plus the fact that most of the African big game is restricted in its hunting, not to mention the costs for permits, licenses and other money generating fees. Mostly over a hundred grand. The black label boxes where a very slick marketing move and probably got the person a big raise and corner office.
Now I'm not any type of expert I have been reloading for 5 years, .50AE, .50 Beowulf, SW500, .45 ACP, 9mm, .38Sp, 5.56mm, 12 gauge. That being said I also load minimum loads due to the size of the local range I'm a member of and approaching the big 7O. Less recoil easier on the wrists and arm and arthritis in them. There are 7,000 grains in one pound of powder, Depending on the brand of powder starting loads are 22 grains to a maximum load of 37.5 grains that gives velocity from 967 fps to 1323fps. The only important thing to remember with handloaded ammo is it has to be able to cycle the action of the gun very time and get the bullet down range.
In my opinion the only thing for that ammo is good for, is making the guy in the photo richer. You buy different ammo's so you are more knowledgeable about the prices of factory ammo. Since some of the bullets that are designed for the SW 500 are longer that for the .50AE I think that they may be compressed powder loads (meaning you seat the bullet on the powder and pack it tight) I hope this helps

Thank you again glenr for so much input from different angles. You must be one tough cookie as I am barely in my 50's and lighter loadings have been appreciated for several years. I shoot more 22lr than anything in the last few years... but I run my Desert Eagles two to four magazines at a time about once a week. Thank you for explaining the socioeconomic/psychology presentation of the ammo. I agree. The 350gr Magnum Research rounds I shoot in my Desert Eagle are pretty lack-luster in the backyard water jug and brick-busting I do with magnum handguns... when compared to 300gr running at 1500+. Just because of the cost, I won't be giving my 50AE a steady diet of anything like this. Actually, Unless I am demonstrating for someone, I shoot those American Quality 50AE (think .75/round) target ammo as it is the lowest power commercial stuff available. This ammo costs more than two times that and I bought it as a novelty loading basically. Unless someone says it is far into the danger zone, I am going to try these to see what happens. In some email exchange, the owner said this "We have been a Pacific Northwest phenomenon for over 15 years." and "To answer your questions in regards to the ammo. I developed the 500 grain XTP loads as a good bear defense load. They were never meant to a match grade accurate medium range cartridge/load. We have a lot of customers that buy them for back up in the woods!" Also, he states he has taken Elk at over 100 yards with 350gr. He also stated these numbers come from a 10" test barrel. I have been putting off a real 50AE "Round-Up" ammo Chrono-test for two years now. I have SO many different loadings to include now, I will likely have to break it down into different days. I will just set up one gun 10" and one with a 6" and run five rounds of each over the chronograph in each length barrel. I might name it "What numbers lie on the box." Actually other than high-dollar novelty ammo, all of what I have tested has been very close to stated velocities. We shall see. Thank you again for your response glenr... MrBlackCat

I run around 25/30 rounds thru a session with the .50, same with the SW500 that is about all the wrists can take even with the reduced loads. I only have an indoor range with in 7 minutes of the house. The sheriff, neighbors and city frown on fire arm discharge. When the lib's ask if I carry I tell them yes two gold Isrealy Hand Cannons in a double shoulder holster rig and 4 magazines two on each side for counter balance! It truly is amazing how many people don't have a clue about guns other than movies,TV shows and game. I don't ski, boat ride bikes or fly so it is a toy to take to the range and have fun with.
I too shoot 22lr mostly in bulleye league and try to take out one of the others during the week. I'm generally a range rat there 4/5 days a week. Wife usually sleeps till noon
