I had my desert eagle tucked away for a few months and i found a little patch of rust underneath on the heel of the grip. It wasnt to bad. I used a fine grit steel wool and some hoppes no 9 and worked at it slowly. Then applied liberal coats of oil onto it to help. I had great success and it is all gone with little trace of any remains. It has been a few months and no new occurences of rust have popped up. But I will be checking into it more closely from now on. I kind of wanted to get a cerakoted model but it is what it is. The cerakote would have worn anyways in spots as well. Has anyone ran into this issue? The used desert eagles i see in the gun stores always seem to have some rust on them if they are the plain black coating.

I have only experienced rust on my Desert Eagle around the gas system from unremoved powder residue... my old MkVII 50 has about 1/2 the finish worn away (literally) and it still doesn't rust. I have always kept my Desert Eagle(s) mostly dry, other than the rails and the bolt. Look at this image and you can see which gun and barrel go together, quite easily. It might look like glare, but it is only because of the worn finish. MrBlackCat
